The Welsh Ambulance Service is committed to making sure staff have the very best training and development opportunities.

With a National Training College and a team of dedicated training professionals, the service can provide full residential training courses as well as a number of day courses to ensure continuous professional development

It is vital that our staff have the necessary knowledge and skills required to respond appropriately to a range of clinical conditions in urgent and emergency situations.

Our Education and Development Team run a variety of educational programmes to make sure staff have the skills they need including:

  • Emergency Medical Technician Basic Training
  • Paramedic Training
  • Emergency and Non-Emergency Vehicle Driver Training
  • HDS (High Dependency Service) Training
  • Command & Control Training
  • Moving & Handling Training

We are accredited with the IHCD for Technician, Driving, and Paramedic Training and accredited with the HPC for Paramedic Registration and Training.

The team also develop and deliver new educational programmes including Rapid Response Vehicle Courses, New Vehicle & Equipment familiarisation and individual programmes to meet specific staff needs.

We have been working closely with Swansea University for a number of years on the provision of a Higher Education Programme; BSc Pre-Hospital Care. This partnership has continued to grow, driving Paramedic Education into the 21st century with the development of a new Higher Education Route to becoming a Registered Paramedic.
